Observational and model evidence for positive low-level cloud feedback.
Feedbacks involving low-level clouds remain a primary cause of uncertainty in global climate model projections. This issue was addressed by examining changes in low-level clouds over the Northeast Pacific in observations and climate models. Decadal fluctuations were identified in multiple, independent cloud data sets, and changes in cloud cover appeared to be linked to changes in both local tem...
متن کاملComment on "Observational and model evidence for positive low-level cloud feedback".
Clement et al. (Reports, 24 July 2009, p. 460) provided observational evidence for systematic relationships between variations in marine low cloudiness and other climatic variables and found that most current-generation climate models were deficient in reproducing such relationships. Our analysis of one of these models (GFDL CM2.1), using more complete model output, indicates better agreement w...
متن کاملNew observational evidence for a positive cloud feedback that amplifies the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation
The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) affects climate variability in the North Atlantic basin and adjacent continents with potential societal impacts. Previous studies based on model simulations and short-term satellite retrievals hypothesized an important role for cloud radiative forcing in modulating the persistence of the AMO in the tropics, but this mechanism remains to be tested with...
متن کاملstudy the effects of low level laser diode on no production and healing of diabetic and cortisone acetate and normal wounded sd rats
nitric oxide (no) is a small molecule synthesized by most of mammalian cells with diverse biological activities including vasodilatation, host defense and wound healing. impaired wound healing is a common occurrence among diabetics and patients receiving glucocorticoid therapy. on the other hand the application of laser in biomedical area have been increased. thus, the current studies were desi...

Bonhoeffer et al. (Reports, 26 November 2004, p. 1547) presented evidence for positive epistasis in a clinical data set of HIV-1 mutants and corresponding fitness values. We demonstrate that biases in the original and simulated data sets may lead to erroneous evidence for epistasis. More rigorous statistical tests must be used to account for such biases before one can infer epistasis.
